Ficci flo organises a workshop in self defense: Fight like a Girl

This event was part of FICCI FLO Lucknows initiatives under mission Shakti aimed at empowering women in the state. Following our respected Choef Ministers directive of creating a new Uttar Pradesh whsre women had the right to live their lives with respect and dignity, FLO Lucknow has been organizing several workshops aimed at empowering women at their homes and at the workplace.
This episode highlighted the very serious issue of self defense for women and children. According to a United Nations report, over 35 percent women have faced some kind of violence or abuse in their lifetime. Given this fact and the rise of crimes against women, self defense is the need of the hour.
This workshop concentrated on empowering members and their daughters and equipped them with basic skills to defend themselves in such situations.
The workshop was conducted by Mrs. Usha Vishwakarna, who founded Red Brigade Lucknow, along with a group of 15 young women and girls, in 2011.
The objective of Red Btigade is to use self-defence trainings for empowerment of
women and to create economic self-sufficiency for women.
Red Brigade has launched a unique self defence program called NISHASTRA which is a blend of learning’s of various techniques, incidences, situations & real life experiences shared by sexual violence survivors and self-defence techniques followed by many countries which are specifically tailor made for self-defence against sexual violence.
Till date, Usha Vishwakarma has trained over 1,57,000 girls/women with across 8 States and almost 50 prestigious organizations to name a few like Many Universities, Railways, Metros, Banks, Police, Professional Educational Institutions, HPCL, Bajaj, Hero, Honda etc.
